5 Ways to Maintain a Healthy Lifestyle
A healthy body leads to a healthy you. In today’s time and age, staying fit and healthy is crucial for people of all ages. Now that everything is becoming increasingly technology-driven, our lifestyle is also impacted. Compared to the previous generations, this generation is much less active, which has become a cause for concern. There has been a drastic decrease in lifestyle diseases in the past few decades. Doctors warn that there may be even more dire problems if people do not start changing their lifestyles. Let’s look at a few crucial ways to lead a healthier life by bringing some vital changes to the way one leads life.
1. Eat a Balanced Diet
Without a balanced diet, the body and mind cannot function correctly. All the essential nutrients in all meals should be equal amounts like protein, carbohydrates, fibres, etc. Make sure fruits and nuts are also part of the diet. Ideally, one should have three proper meals every day. Along with eating healthy, make sure to cut down on the unhealthy stuff. Reduce the amount of sugar and processed foods. If sugar cannot be avoided, find other healthier alternatives, like jaggery and honey. Try and consume organic products. Shakes and salads are good ways to get nutrients in an accessible form, especially for children.
2. Maintain a Sleep Schedule
The adequate amount of sleep needed by everybody depends on their age, but on average, at least 7–8 hours of sleep is required. With the amount of screen time, one has daily, the eyes also need rest. Try to sleep and wake up at the same time every day; this will ensure a better sleep cycle. Early to bed and early to rise is the motto that everybody should follow to feel well-rested. Form good bedtime habits by avoiding gadgets at least 30 minutes before bedtime. This will reduce the risk of insomnia and lead to a night of good sleep.
3. Exercise Regularly
A good diet will only help to an extent. Only when it is combined with exercise will it yield any results. It is a myth that training is only for losing weight or staying thin. Regular physical activity is essential for staying fit. Most of the jobs in the present day are sitting positions. One should take breaks and move around from time to time to avoid health concerns. There are various ways to exercise, ranging from yoga to a simple walk. Any sport also works. Doctors recommend at least 50 mins of moderate-intensity physical activity a few times a week.
4. Drink Plenty of Water
The human body can stay alive without food, but it will cease to exist without water. Water is necessary for various functions in our body, like the transportation of nutrients and removing waste from our bodies. Hence since water leaves the body in different forms, it must be replenished regularly. Everybody should drink at least 3 to 4 litres every day. Although water is vital, try to avoid drinking cold water and prefer to drink either lukewarm or room temperature water. Do not drink water immediately after any form of physical activity; let the body cool down and then drink.
5. Spend Time With Yourself
Many people of this generation are struggling with maintaining a proper work-life balance. This is not just impacting their physical health but also mental health. It is essential to give yourself a break from time to time. Overworking may lead to burnout. Take up hobbies and practice self-care. Meditation is also an excellent way to relax. Sometimes it is okay to feel a little low at times. It is essential to acknowledge all your emotions and give yourself time. Travelling and spending time with one’s loved ones is also an excellent way to relax.
Start making changes before it’s too late. Health is wealth, and if we fail to take care of our health, we may as well fail in life. Also, make sure to visit the doctor for regular checkups. It is better to catch any diseases at an early stage. They may also inform you about any supplements you may need to take if you suffer from any vitamin deficiency.
